Placing Every Child Where They Can Thrive
At Heathfield International School, we follow the British education principle of placing children in their correct age group to ensure academic, social and emotional growth.

Placing Every Child Where
They Can Thrive
01
Why Age Matters
The British education system recognises that children learn best with peers at a similar stage of social and emotional development. Differentiated teaching supports all abilities, ensuring every child can reach their potential.
02
Our Policy
We follow strict age guidelines to place students in the correct year group, while allowing flexibility in exceptional circumstances to support success, ensuring decisions are always made in students’ best interests.
Exceptions & Considerations

Younger Children
Children with birthdays in August or with minimal formal schooling/low English may be placed in the year below to give them a better chance to succeed.
Accelerating a Child
Acceleration is only considered for children with highly developed abilities above their age group. A series of assessments will determine suitability.
Students in Year 10+ Learning in a Second Language
Students with insufficient English to follow the IGCSE programme may be given additional support before joining the standard programme.
