The curriculum at this level guides the learning and teaching process and helps us to establish an optimum learning environment. We believe that to engage, achieve and make positive contributions pupil must be healthy, secure and safe. We value all of these needs and understand their contribution to the development of happy pupils in an enjoyable, encouraging and stimulating atmosphere.

The learning environment combines high standards with a broad and rich curriculum. The Early Learning Goals are standards in themselves and we strive to achieve them through a variety of play-based and structured activities striking a fine balance between both teacher- led and student-initiated play. Play underpins all development and learning for young children. Most children play spontaneously and it is through play that they develop intellectually, creatively, physically, socially and emotionally. The Key Learning Areas are integrated into children’s daily programme through a variety of experiences and activities.

To support these areas, other aspects of learning are scheduled into the day. Pupils visit the library and the computer laboratory for ICT (Information and Communication Technology) related activities weekly. Lessons each for Games, PE and Swimming are also scheduled to assist with children’s physical development. Children also visit the music room every week to learn songs and play instruments.

Primary Curriculum

Our curriculum consists of the English National Curriculum and is complimented and supported by a wide range of extracurricular activities. Our curriculum is challenging, creative and will be constantly reviewed. We understand that children learn best by doing, exploring and being appropriately challenged, whilst feeling safe, valued and part of a lively community.

The broad curriculum we offer includes: art, languages, science, geography, history and personal, social and health education. Whilst we give a strong prominence to our core subjects of English and Mathematics, we also use a creative and cross curricula approach to the other subjects. This involves creative teaching of lessons, a wide variety of learning approaches and a creative output of ideas from the children.

Although firmly rooted in the English National Curriculum, we enthusiastically embrace the culture and customs of Laos

Through our curriculum we nurture the whole child from gripping the pencil, to contrasting localities, developing artistic understanding, throwing further, running faster and getting stronger. We seek to guide and inspire children’ to become resilient, lifelong learners, collaborators, effective teamwork contributors and further, leaders of the future.

In the Primary, the children are grouped within the class for different purposes either in ability groups or mixed ability groups depending on the objectives of each particular lesson. This ensures that learning opportunities are optimised to meet a variety of pupil needs.

Primary pupils at HISV are encouraged to become active learners, able to take responsibility for their lives, and to become leaders in their own way. Enrolling your children at HISV is not only to prepare them for secondary school and university, but to prepare them for life, in a rapidly changing world.

Our teachers are native English speakers fully qualified to British standards and receive continuous training.

One of the features of HISV is the professionalism and availability of staff. Primary teachers meet parents informally after school each day this ensures most pastoral and academic issues are dealt with promptly.

The teachers are supported by a wide variety of support staff. We have teams of teaching assistants in every year group, all working towards the same goal of educating the children at HISV.

We will provide a vibrant curriculum, supported by highly qualified caring staff members all working to the goal of providing a superb foundation but even more so, shaping your child  to be a happy caring and motivated learner on the road to success.
